During the study for his Masters in Design degree, Sherburne was asked to develop concepts for four stairways and four doorhandles for a building project of his choice. He chose the Coop Himmel(b)lau project Musee des Confluences in Lyons France. The space is essentially a science museum and has a technology focus aimed at investigating the role of science in society. The central topics of the museum are Technique, Biology and Ethics. During his exploratory design work, Sherburne began to focus on combining technology with aesthetics and the conceptual playfulness of art movements such as Fluxus or Dada. His goal was to challenge participants to consciously engage with the technology at hand and by experiencing the unexpected, become more aware of their surroundings and role design, technology and intellect play in the world around them.
