The Ember Lamp derives its aesthetic from the classic plug-in faux fires of the 50s and 60s. For the majority of Canadians growing up in urban centers, these somewhat tacky fireplaces were often as close as they would come to enjoying the experience of an open fire. For many, these faux fires now remind them of their childhood and represent a time in which they could dream of unknown experiences in the wilderness next to an open fire. The Ember Lamp plays off of this type of reverie and the camp value associated with the faux fire, but also makes a refined statement as an elegant piece of furniture. The LED array on the inside shifts gently from red to orange to yellow to simulate a glowing fire. The light is subtly emitted through the thin wood veneer and appears luminous and glowing. The LEDs can also be selected to cast only red, orange, yellow or white and when turned on its side the faux fire reference disappears and the Ember Lamp functions as a contemporary light source.
