Major Tom was designed by Jesse Sherburne and Milan Krepelka as an inexpensive modular unit that could be adapted for multiple storage and seating uses. Construction would be a rotomolded internally reinforced unit that could be created inexpensively and assembled in a number of configurations. The concept was entered into the IDEE International Furniture Competition which it placed in the top 20 of the 2000 entries
