The goal of the design with The Savoy was to create a transformative environment that was classically elegant while at the same time fun and inviting. The Savoy was designed to attract a clientele that was interested in art, theater, design, and food and would engage with the creative atmosphere that drew inspiration from many historical art and design precedents. Research was conducting studying many of the bohemian cafes inhabited by the early modernist artists of the 20s and 30s. This was combined with inspiration from many of the swinging cocktail lounges of the 50s and 60s particularly in London. Ultimately the goal was to combine these classic environments with a modern aesthetic to create an environment that alluded to the nostalgia of the past, while appearing contemporary and progressive. The result is a well-balanced design that invited The Savoys clientele into a sophisticated cosmopolitan environment that references the past but lived in the present.
